Woman injured in Batavia apartment fire
One person was injured in an apartment fire early Thursday in Batavia.
Firefighters were called to the Batavia Apartments, 1171 E. Wilson St., at 12:24 a.m. for a fire burning in a first floor apartment.
Prior to arrival by the fire department, a Batavia Police officer and another resident of the apartment complex had rescued a woman who was trapped inside the burning apartment, according to Batavia Battalion Chief Randy Banker.
The woman was treated at the scene and transported to an area hospital, Banker said. Her condition is unknown.
The building's fire alarm system activated, alerting the remaining residents who evacuated. There were no other injuries, according to the fire department.
The fire, which was under control in 45 minutes, was contained to the first floor apartment. A chair and portion of a rug had ignited and burned in the blaze, according to the fire department.
No one else was injured, authorities said, but the fire caused about $7,000 in damages, including significant smoke damage.
The fire remains under investigation, officials said.
