Search continues for missing Aurora mom, kids
A woman who left her Aurora home early Wednesday morning with her three young sons after an argument with her fiance remains missing Friday morning, authorities said.
Aurora police are asking the public to be on the lookout for 29-year-old Laureth “Laurie” M. May of the 200 block of Plum Street and her three sons, 4-year-old Quincy Collins, 2-year-old Oliver Collins and 1-year-old Spencer Collins.
May is described as a 5-foot, 135-pound white woman with red hair, blue eyes and freckles. Detectives believe May, a former teacher in La Grange Highlands in Western Cook County, might be with a 17-year-old girl from Cicero, a former student who was reported missing shortly after May left Aurora.
Aurora Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said there is a belief they have gone to Gary, Ind., based on credit card records and possible sightings. Ferrelli said a credit card may have been used Thursday in the Gary, IN area, and that May and the 17-year-old from Cicero were spotted at a Wal-Mart in Hobart, Ind.
In addition, a caller said she talked directly with May about her three young children, and indicated that there were four other people with May, including one who matched the description of the missing 17 year old.
May was last was seen wearing a blue jean jacket with a fur collar and blue jeans when she left Aurora about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to the preliminary investigation.
May's sons all are fair-skinned black boys with black hair and brown eyes, authorities said. Quincy is 4 feet tall, weighs about 40 pounds and last was seen wearing blue and red pajamas with cars on them. Oliver and Spencer Collins both are about 2 feet tall and 30 pounds.
When May left her Aurora home with the boys, Oliver was wearing blue footie pajamas with ladybugs and Spencer was wearing blue footie pajamas with snaps in front.
The preliminary investigation indicates May and her fiance got into an argument about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, which ended when she left with the boys in a white, 2001 Volvo station wagon with Illinois license plate 9590986 and a pink cancer ribbon on the back left bumper.
May's fiance told police she has never behaved in this way before and “gave no indications of intending to hurt either herself or her children” before leaving.
Aurora police are working with Cicero police on the case. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of May, her sons or the Cicero girl is asked to call Aurora Police Investigations at (630) 256-5500.
