Lenten Decalogue Theme of Grace Lutheran Church's Midweek Services
Pastor Richard Likeness of Grace Lutheran Church, 493 Forest Avenue in downtown Glen Ellyn, is engaging the congregation in a remembrance of the ten commandments given to the people of Israel by God through Moses. Each week, during Lent, the worship service theme will be one of the major topics of Luther's Small Catechism.
After the Ash Wednesday service on February 22, each Wednesday, for five weeks will include a simple supper at 6 p.m. followed by the worship service at 7 p.m. The dates of the Lenten services are as follows: Wednesday, Feb. 29, Wed. March 7. Wed. March 14, Wed. March 21 and Wed. March 28.
The Lenten Plans and Disciplines recommended by Pastor Likeness are regular worship, prayer and alms giving. The Glen Ellyn Food Pantry is housed in Grace Lutheran Church's building and is in the heart of Glen Ellyn ‘s business district. “Let's say thank you to the workers at the Pantry by bringing food supplies each time we meet for worship. Even if it is one item of non perishable food, this is an active way of offering something of value to those in our community who are in need. During the gathering of the offerings at each worship service, people will be invited - each week - to bring forward any donations they have for the food pantry.,” explained Pastor Likeness. The Food Pantry does have a list available of specific items they need to re-stock. Call the Grace Church Office at 630-469-1555 for information about the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry and the Lenten Schedule of worship services.
