Waukegan man gets 4 years in prison for $12 robbery
A Waukegan man was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday after he admitted committing a robbery in which he collected $12 in cash.
Jimmie Hanson, 21, pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery during a hearing before Lake County Associate Judge Christopher Stride.
Assistant State’s Attorney Scott Hoffert said the robbery victims were two Chicago men who were making a food delivery to a restaurant on the 2000 block of Lewis Avenue around 2:30 a.m. on June 2.
Hanson, who was wearing a mask at the time, walked up to the men and pointed a handgun at them and demanded their wallets.
After the men surrendered their wallets, Hanson fled the scene on foot but police were able to track him to his residence in the 2100 block of Lorraine Avenue using a K-9 unit.
Hanson denied any involvement in the crime, and police released him after questioning.
However, police questioned Hanson about the robbery again on July 25 after he was arrested on a warrant for domestic battery.
Hanson admitted he had committed the robbery, and told police he had taken a total of $12 from wallets before throwing away the credit cards and identification cards.
He was originally charged with armed robbery, which carries a mandatory minimum prison sentence of at least six years, but Hoffert agreed to reduce the charge in exchange for the guilty plea.
