Smoke forces patients to be moved at Ill. hospital

NORMAL— Smoke from a malfunctioning elevator motor forced the relocation of 23 patients at a central Illinois hospital.

Patients and staff were moved Tuesday evening from the pediatrics and infusion and mental health units of Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

They were moved to other parts of the hospital.

Fire Chief Mick Humer tells the (Bloomington) Pantagraph that no one was injured. Other parts of the hospital weren’t affected.

BroMenn spokesman Eric Alvin says it turns out there wasn’t a fire, just a lot of smoke.

All patients were expected to be returned to their rooms Wednesday morning.
