Yarbrough helps Zion-Benton past Grayslake Central

Sophomore forward Milik Yarbrough poured in 40 points and center Curtis Cook scored on a putback with 13 seconds left, lifting Zion-Benton's boys basketball team to a 69-65 win over short-handed Grayslake Central in a nonconference thriller in Zion on Wednesday night.

Grayslake Central (17-7) played without 6-foot-9 center Casey Boyle, who injured his ankle in the Rams' loss at Crystal Lake Central on Tuesday.

Cook scored 8 of his 10 points in the fourth quarter for Zion-Benton (11-14), with his last snapping a 65-65 tie. Yarbrough's 2 free throws accounted for the final margin.

Danny Reed led Grayslake Central with 21 points. Jordan Taylor and Tyler Smith added 15 and 12 points, respectively, for the Rams.

Grayslake Central can clinch the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division championship with a home win Friday against Woodstock North coupled with a Grayslake North loss at Crystal Lake Central the same night.

Northridge Prep 50, Carmel 43: The Corsairs dropped the nonconference road game, despite Brandon Motzel's 21 points.

Joe Molloy and Ian Kristan sank 3-pointers for Carmel, which fell to 9-13.
