Palatine approves lead cleanup at old gun range
The Palatine village council this week approved spending up to $20,200 to clean up the police department’s old gun range at the Community Center on Wood Street.
The police force recently moved into new headquarters, which includes a new gun range, at 595 N. Hicks Road. Since lead contamination is present at the old range, special waste cleanup will be required to either reuse, renovate or demolish portions of it.
The cleanup will be funded through contingencies built into the police station construction project, which is running about $1 million under budget. Officials aren’t yet sure what will become of the old station and gun range.
