Hanover Park teen gets four years for car burglary
A Cook County judge sentenced a Hanover Park teen to four years in prison last week following his November conviction on charges of stealing items from cars.
Kordell T. Southall, 19, was on probation for a 2010 burglary in DuPage County at the time of his arrest, prosecutors said.
Police arrested Southall in August after they encountered him riding his bike near Barrington Road and Sycamore Avenue in Hanover Park, near where some burglaries had taken place, prosecutors said. After Southall gave the officer permission to look in his backpack, the officer found cellphones, a radar detector and other items which authorities determined were stolen from a vehicle in Bloomingdale, prosecutors said during Southall’s bail hearing last summer.
Southall faced up to five years in prison. He received credit for the 153 days he has been in custody since his arrest. He must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
