Downed railroad gates in Huntley back up again
It is now clear to cross Route 47 at Main Street in Huntley.
As of 2:46 p.m., personnel from the Union Pacific Railroad Company had managed to get the fallen gates at the intersection back up again, police said.
They had been down since 1 p.m.
“Traffic is moving again, as normal as can be,” Deputy Police Chief Todd Fulton said.
Railroad personnel remain on the scene to investigate how the gates came down.
Police said they attributed the problem to a switch issue on the gates and said there was no train in the area that prompted the gates to lower.
A Union Pacific spokesman could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, police were advising motorist to stay away from that intersection, due to backed up traffic.
Since the gates are back up again, traffic is no longer an issue, Fulton said.
