With such reaction, is ethics a problem?

For several days now I have been reading reactive statements concerning State Sen. Chris Lauzen. At a recent news conference at the Lincoln Inn hosted by the Kane County Chronicle on Jan. 17 on ethics, Sen. Lauzen reported some concerns some of his constituents had about ethics in public offices.

As one of Sen. Lauzen’s constituents who voiced these concerns, I am appalled at the amount of and tenor of reactions and words for this action. I saw no accusation in this report of concern, only that perception, to most people, is reality. Whether or not anything untoward is occurring in county government, the perception is that it could well be.

The facts speak for themselves. From the forceful and vociferous reaction, I have to wonder if something is going on. In the words of the Bard: “The lady doth protest too much, methinks”.

I make no accusation, and Sen. Lauzen made no accusation. The reaction makes me wonder.
