Truck driver suffers minor injuries in I-94 crash

A truck driver suffered minor injuries when the semitrailer he was driving crashed and separated from its trailer, which then flipped over the center median on the Tri-State Tollway Thursday.

Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Mark Pilgrim said the truck was in the westbound lanes on I-94 near Route 60/Townline Road at 7:12 a.m. when two tires detached from an eastbound semi and rolled into oncoming traffic.

The driver of westbound semi swerved left, but one tire struck the semi and the driver crashed into the median, police said. The impact caused the trailer of the westbound semi to separate from the tractor. The trailer flipped over the median and into the eastbound lanes, where it rolled over and skidded to a halt, Pilgrim said.

The trailer hit a Ford Mustang, Pilgrim said, but the unidentified driver of the Mustang was not injured.

The westbound truck driver was to Advocate Condell Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.

One eastbound and one westbound lane were shut down until 9:50 a.m. after the crash as the area was cleared of debris, police said.
