Fire causes $40,000 damage to garage
Investigators are trying to uncover the cause of a blaze in a garage near St. Charles late Monday night, authorities said.
Chief Greg Benson of the Fox River & Countryside Fire/Rescue District said firefighters were called to the fire in the 6N900 block of Roosevelt Avenue in unincorporated Kane County at about 7:45 p.m. Monday.
Upon arrival fire was seen inside the detached garage and swiftly moving toward the nearby house.
Benson said firefighters quickly doused the blaze closest to the home to prevent it from spreading, then worked to suppress the fire inside the garage. The fire was out by 10:30 p.m.
No one was injured, Benson said, but the fire caused about $40,000 worth of damage to the garage.
“It took a little more time than usual because the family used a storage space above the garage for seasonal items, and we had to take all of that out to make sure the fire was out,” Benson said Tuesday.
Benson would not say whether the fire was suspicious.
The Kane County Fire Investigation Task Force is assisting in the investigation.
