Health briefs: ‘Know Your Numbers’ screenings

‘Know Your Numbers’ screenings

Advocate Condell Medical Center is offering “Know Your Numbers” screenings to determine baseline health statistics. Screenings will measure HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure and BMI.

Participants must fast for eight hours prior to screening. Results will be available immediately, and a registered nurse and other clinicians will be on hand for a short counseling session to interpret numbers and determine the next steps.

Appointments are available from 7 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Gurnee Centre Club, 1405 Hunt Club Road, and 7 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the main hospital’s West Tower, 801 S. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. Cost is $20, payable by cash or check at the time of screening.

To register, call (800) 323-8622. The event code is 5C18.

Heart Awareness Month

Northwest Community Hospital, 800 Central Road, Arlington Heights, is holding three events for Heart Awareness Month.

“Feeling Good the Heart Healthy Way” will provide information on how to take better care of your heart along with a sampling of heart-healthy foods, a gift bag and raffle prizes. The free program will be held from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, in the hospital’s auditorium, 800 W. Central Road in Arlington Heights. Participants will find out how to assess and reduce the risk of developing heart disease and discover why a heart-healthy diet doesn’t have to be boring. Park in the Visitor Garage on the east side of the campus and enter the hospital through the East Entrance.

Two “Know Your Numbers” events will be held from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays, Feb. 18 and 25, at the NCH Health Center, 199 W. Rand Road, Mount Prospect. For a $10 fee, participants will learn their cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure levels. Those numbers can then be entered online at nch.org/heartaware for a comprehensive heart risk assessment. The screening requires fasting for 12 hours in advance.

To register, call (847) 618-4968 or visit nch.org.
