Keep the debate about abortion civil
I am responding to the letter in Fence Post by James Prescott titled “Republicans need a moral recheck.” He states, “When you are not able to distinguish between an investment activity and a vulture activity, you have a serious moral problem.”
There are times when people interpret someone’s statements incorrectly, perhaps because they hear what they want to hear. Mr. Prescott’s statement, “When you would bar abortions even to save the life of the mother, your moral compass is certainly out of kilter when you think that two deaths are better than one,” is so out of line, so incorrect. I just had to reply to such false information that so often pro-choice people will say. When a mother’s life is in danger, her life is foremost of importance to the medical field and everything is done to save her.
Then Mr. Prescott gets very insulting when he states “Yes, I was wrong to say the Republican candidates and part dogma had no standards (they do, but they just seem to be low). They simply have no shame.” What an insult to me and to all who believe in the sanctity of all life. This kind of talk doesn’t help any of us. It gets down to name calling and nastiness.
And, yes, I am a Christian, a Catholic Christian. I do have morals. I would not insult the Democratic Party by saying they have no standards; some do, some don’t, as with Republicans. We disagree on some things. But why don’t we get back some civility? Let’s state the facts.
