Kevin Fox pays reward to tipster in murder case

CHICAGO — The lawyer for a man once charged with being the murderer of his daughter has paid a tipster whose information led to a convicted rapist in the girl's death.

Kevin Fox and his family refused last year to pay $100,000 to Trisha Kiefer, the former girlfriend of Scott Eby, who was convicted of killing 3-year-old Riley Fox. The girl was kidnapped from her Wilmington home in 2004, raped and murdered.

The family's attorney, Kathleen Zellner, at one time said she didn't think the Foxes owed Kiefer anything. However, Zellner said in a statement emailed to the Chicago Tribune that Fox decided to pay an undisclosed amount after an investigation into Kiefer's 5-year delay in coming forward.

Kevin Fox spent eight months in jail before being cleared by DNA evidence.
