Chicago woman killed Thursday in pedestrian accident in Palatine

A 24-year-old Chicago woman died after she was hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Quentin Road and Peder Lane in Palatine Thursday afternoon.

Palatine Fire Deputy Chief William Gabrenya said rescue officials were dispatched to Quentin and Peder at about 5:36 p.m. Thursday where the pedestrian was injured after being hit by the car.

A witness told police that Yesenia Enriquez ran across all four lanes of Quentin Road and into the path of a northbound Toyota Camry.

Gabrenya said rescuers arrived on the scene within minutes and transported the victim to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where she later died.

Police said the site of the collision had no crosswalks and wasn’t at an intersection. Enriquez was wearing dark clothing, and the roadway was dark, police said.

Gabrenya said the driver of the vehicle was not injured, but there was moderate damage to the car. He added it is unclear at this time how fast the vehicle was traveling prior to the crash.

The Palatine Police Technical Accident Investigators team is investigating the crash. No citations have been issued, police said.
