13-year-old brings loaded gun to Aurora school
A 13-year-old boy brought a loaded handgun to Waldo Middle School in Aurora on Friday but did not use it, authorities said.
The seventh-grader is at the Kane County Youth Home in St. Charles facing felony charges after school administrators found a loaded .357 handgun in his locker.
Police said they were called about 10 a.m. to the school at 56 Jackson St. on the city’s near east side and learned the student had been overheard bragging about bringing a gun to school.
Police said the boy apparently had no plans to use the gun, is not involved in a gang and did not have any prior contact with authorities. They said he brought the gun to school to show it off.
No one was injured.
Waldo Middle School was on lockdown for a short time after administrators found the weapon.
The boy will appear before a judge Monday facing two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, authorities said. Police still are investigating where the gun came from and how it arrived in the student’s possession.
