For some, a check is all we can give
I read with interest about Felicia Reinhard, the 20-year-old who is selflessly giving of herself to kids with disabilities and illnesses through utilization of her own skills. She certainly is a standout.
However, I want to point out that we cannot all be standouts. Reinhard states that she doesn’t know that she’d be making a difference if she “just wrote a check.”
I’ve heard that from people like Reinhard, who have founded charities or volunteered in stories past, some of them in the Daily Herald. What these folks may not be aware of is that writing a check is all that some of us can do.
I have a neurological condition, autism, that limits me due to sensory issues and social interaction. Thus, I could not physically participate in many charities due to the stimulation.
I also don’t have much money, so I feel like I’m doing my part when I monetarily contribute.
I firmly believe if everyone does what is in his/her capacity to help others, without judgment, this world will be a better place.
