Iwo Jima, veterans benefits topics of Palatine event

Tamarack retirement community, 55 S. Greeley in Palatine, invites local veterans and the public to a remembrance of the Battle of Iwo Jima 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.

Iwo Jima, site of the famous flag-raising photo by Joe Rosenthal, was a pivotal one-month battle between the United States and Japan during World War II. February marks the 67th anniversary. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.

The community is also hosting a free seminar on the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Aid and Attendance program which can pay up to $2,019 per month, an often overlooked benefit. It will offer details about the history of Aid and Attendance, outline the requirements to qualify for the tax-free benefit, and inform applicants about the needed documentation. Space is limited; RSVP to (847) 991-4700.
