Fairness an issue in Elgin

On Jan. 24, the Daily Herald reported that the City of Elgin is “pulling the plug” on the seniors’ rebate program, a program that was established about 17 years ago when then-mayor George VanDeVoorde’s administration voted to bring the boat to town.

Maybe it’s time for Elgin residents to pull the plug on this city’s administration, along with the business at 250 S. Grove Ave., which is getting free water from the blue-colored fire hydrant at this location for their boat, while taxpayers and water users in Elgin, Sleepy Hollow and Bartlett pay a “water availability” charge each month.

Might be worth remembering when a city council member comes calling for your vote in a few months, Elginites.

All that’s changed in Elgin over the past two decades are the names and faces. As a long-departed friend was fond of stating, upon visiting, was “It looks like Elgin continues to exist in spite of itself.”
