An honor amid a five-car pileup?

I, too, felt a sense of loss when I read that Jane Addams’ Hull House Association was going to shut down. Jane Addams has always stood, in my mind, not just as a great advocate for social justice, but as someone who actually made good things happen.

However, I couldn’t make the leap to her association with the I-90 toll road. Why did anyone think it a fitting honor to name a portion of the toll road for Jane Addams? “Traffic is at a standstill on the Jane Addams memorial highway.” “There’s a five-car pileup on the Jane Addams memorial highway.” How can Jane Addams rest in peace with that going on?
