Cook County man gets 18 years for Lombard home invasion
A Northlake man received an 18-year prison term Wednesday for a 2010 home invasion in which a Lombard man and his teenage daughter were held captive, prosecutors said.
Jesus Hernandez, 36, had pleaded guilty in June to one count of home invasion. He was sentenced by DuPage County Judge George Bakalis.
Prosecutors said Hernandez was armed with a BB gun and disguised in a ski mask when he broke into the victim’s home about 1:30 p.m. Oct. 30, 2010. Once inside, he handcuffed a male occupant and bound the occupant’s teenage daughter with duct tape, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
Hernandez fled after the teen managed to free herself and call 911, authorities said. Lombard police arrested him later that day.
“Everyone has a right to feel safe in their own home,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. “Mr. Hernandez violated the sanctity of his victim’s home and for that he will spend a significant amount of time behind bars.”
Hernandez must serve at least nine years before he is eligible for parole.
