Is there a particular issue that motivates you? If so, what?To provide a strong, independent voice for District 3 constituents, a sharp focus on waste of taxpayer money and being vigilant about maintaining the quality of life in DuPage County. If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of any important initiatives you've led. If you are a challenger, what would you bring to the board and what would your priority be?Along with my considerable experience in the private and public sector, I would bring fiscal sensibility. Great companies, supposedly ones too big to fail, have been brought to their knees because they lost their way. The same thing can happen to great counties. We have to be watchful and diligent about how and where we spend taxpayer money. How can the county best manage its growth, growing diversity?Growth has pretty much come to a standstill in DuPage County. Regarding diversity, we need to encourage assimilation for new minority residents to reduce the chance of enclaves. We also need to impart an understanding that for decades people of all races and ethnic backgrounds have moved to DuPage County because they embrace shared values: a strong work ethic, a desire for a quality education for their children and quality of life for their family; and a personal commitment to involvement in and protection of the future direction of the county. If incumbent, are you satisifed your attendance at county board/committee meetings has been adequate? Describe the rough percentage of meetings you've attended. If non-incumbent, are you aware of the incumbent's attandance record and is it adequate? What is your stance on county board members' pay? Too high, too low, just right? Would you propose any changes' Do you think county board members should receive pensions' If not, would be willing to pledge not to take one?As far as pay for county board members goes, it is a part-time job. A very part-time job. If you look at $50,000 a year for one day a week (members will say they put in more like 30 to 40 hours a week) that extended out is a $280,000 annual salary, plus benefits. That's a lot of money. That means a person who works his regular job, and perhaps is mayor of a town and wants to be a county board member too, will have to put in 80 to 100 hours of work a week to do justice to all. If county pay is too high, county pensions will be too high. There should be no pension for county board members. I will not take the pension when elected to this position.
