Suicide intervention training available

Submitted by Suicide Prevention Services of America

Suicide Prevention Services of America will conduct Applied Suicide Intervention Training from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, and Saturday, Feb. 4, at a local church.

ASIST Training, developed by LivingWorks, prepares individuals to become more ready, willing and able caregivers. ASIST Training is a two-day, highly interactive and practical workshop. Participation in the full two days of the workshop is required for all participants.

“ASIST Training really is the equivalent of first aid or CPR for suicide prevention,” said SPS Director Stephanie Weber, “so it’s excellent basic training for anyone in a caregiver role, or as training to build further suicide prevention skills upon.”

The training is open to anyone interested in learning about suicide prevention and is a required prerequisite for suicide prevention hotline volunteers. Cost for the training is $195 or $100 for students, and is free for those pursuing a hotline volunteer opportunity.

For more information about ASIST Training, or to register online, visit the SPS website at www.spsamerica.org, or call (630) 482-9699.
