Des Plaines Optimists Host annual Pancake Breakfast.

Hundred of flapjacks were served on Saturday, January 28, from 8:00am until noon, at the annual Des Plaines Optimist Club's Pancake Breakfast, held at the Frisbie Senior Center. Breakfast included sausage, orange juice, milk and coffee, and of course, pancakes, freshly flipped and served by members of the Club. Proceeds from the breakfast benefit upcoming free events and programs for children including a Kite Fly on May 19; a Fishing Derby at Lake Park on June 2; Movies in the Park at the Lake Park Memorial Pavilion during the summer; and a Junior Golf Tournament on August 8. The Optimists also held a raffle with prizes that included, gift certificates from Gigi's Flowers and CR Flowers; a one year subscription to the Journal and Topics newspapers; a Kindle, donated by Millennium Bank; and a variety of prizes from Menard's. “This is a wonderful event,” said President Steve Meinke, “families not only enjoy a delicious meal, but have the chance to learn about our work in the community.”

The Des Plaines Optimist Club mission is to sponsor fun, educational activities and outings and have been doing so since 1919. For more information about The Optimists, visit www.dpoptimist.org
