Let the food fight begin
Who doesn’t enjoy a food fight? Especially, one that doesn’t involve cleaning up afterward.
The Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce & Industry has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging its members to participate in the 10th annual Food Fight benefiting the Des Plaines Self Help Closet and Food Pantry during February.
The competition is being held in conjunction with the pantry’s February “Have a Heart” food drive.
Chamber members are encouraged to collect nonperishable food items throughout February. The Food Fight begins Feb. 1 and ends on March 1.
The organization that collects the most food — measured by weight — will have its name engraved on a special plaque.
The Rotary Club of Des Plaines was last year’s winner. More than 10,670 pounds of food was collected last year with 10 organizations participating.
Each organization must contact the food pantry and make an appointment to schedule delivery.
For more information, call the chamber at (847) 824-4200 or Debra Walusiak, food pantry community resource director, at (847) 337-1443.
