Shoveling walk is a neighborly act

If you own a house, you may have a public sidewalk on property that you share with your village or city. Chances are people use that sidewalk. Some of those folks may be the elderly to get to a store or shop as they have stopped driving, perhaps joggers or walkers getting in a workout, maybe those who wish to walk their dogs or kids going to and from school.

Either way, if you are able, please do not rely on your public works group to clear the snow and ice from your walk. If you are able, take the responsibility and clear your walkways as you do your driveways. If you pay someone to clear your driveway, remind them of the importance of also clearing the sidewalks. By keeping your sidewalks clear of snow, you are helping those you may never meet, but, like me, they will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
