U of I students call leaders’ ethics lacking

URBANA — Student leaders at the University of Illinois have passed a resolution calling for more ethical leadership following the resignation of the university president’s chief of staff.

Michael Hogan’s chief of staff, Lisa Troyer, resigned after denying she was the author of anonymous emails sent to faculty members trying to change unfavorable opinions of an enrollment management plan favored by Hogan.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reported that the Illinois Student Senate on Wednesday voted 14-2 to pass the resolution.

The resolution also complains that the email situation is only the latest recent ethical trouble at the university. It follows an admissions scandal that cost Hogan’s predecessor his job and an investigation of inflated academic credentials at the law school.

A similar resolution will be considered next week by elected faculty leaders.
