Online predator sentenced to 20 years

JOLIET — A Florida man who traveled to Illinois to have sex with a young girl he befriended online has been sentenced to 20 years in state prison.

Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow’s office says 33-year-old Jon Filipkowski was sentenced on Wednesday — eight months after a jury found him guilty of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and traveling to meet a minor for sex.

Filipkowski was charged in July 2010 after an investigation revealed that while posing as a young boy in an Internet chat room for teens he struck up a friendship with a young Will County girl, met her and had sex with her in a local hotel.

The investigation was assisted by the girl’s older sister, who told investigators about a telephone conversation the girl and Filipkowski had.
