Jurors find man guilty in Chicago cop’s slaying

Jurors have convicted a man of first-degree murder in the 2008 death of a Chicago police officer who was gunned down while serving a search warrant.

Jurors deliberated less than two hours before announcing on Thursday they’d found 40-year-old Lamar Cooper guilty in the 2008 slaying of officer Nathaniel Taylor Jr.

During the trial, prosecutors contended that Cooper, an admitted drug dealer, shot Taylor as the officer approached him outside Cooper’s South Side home.

Cooper’s attorneys argued that Cooper didn’t realize the 39-year-old Taylor was a police officer. Taylor was wearing plainclothes. Cooper’s attorney say he shot Taylor because he thought Taylor was about to rob him.

But prosecutors countered that Taylor identified himself as a police officer just before Cooper shot him in the head and chest.
