'Dream Machine' offers rewards for recycling

Recycling just got more rewarding at downtown Chicago's James R. Thompson Center.

Visitors can now earn points for every bottle or can they recycle using a new kiosk dubbed a “Dream Machine.” Those points can translate into discounts at local restaurants and retailers.

Pepsico has pledged to donate money to a national program for veterans for the recyclables collected.

Pepsico officials say the company has already donated $1 million to the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities through about 4,000 kiosks nationwide.

Gov. Pat Quinn helped unveil the recycling program.

He says he hopes not only to increase the amount of material recycled in Illinois, but to also inspire businesses and other states to follow suit.

Pepsico says there are about 4,000 Dream Machines in 40 states.
