Kohler, salon school settle trademark lawsuit

KOHLER, Wis. = — An Arizona salon school has agreed to drop its name after it was sued for trademark infringement by Wisconsin’s Kohler Co.

The multi-billion dollar manufacturer of bathtubs, toilets and other products holds more than 30 trademarks that include the name Kohler. The company has trademarked the name for a variety of goods, including spa and salon services, shampoo and lotions.

Jill and Burt Kohler own a cosmetology school in Scottsdale, Ariz., called Kohler Academy. Not anymore. Kohler wanted $400,000 plus damages for trademark infringement. Jill Kohler tells the Journal Sentinel they settled fairly quickly and changed the name of the school to Penrose Academy.
