Driver strikes tree in Aurora, airlifted from scene

A 63-year-old Naperville woman was seriously injured when her vehicle struck a tree in Aurora just north of Fox Valley mall in late Wednesday morning, police said.

The woman was driving west on New York Street just west of Route 59 when her vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree in the median, said Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli.

The driver was airlifted from the scene to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with serious injuries, according to police.

The 1997 Mercedes E320 was towed from the scene.

The roadway was shut down for more than two hours as police investigated the crash, Ferrelli said.

Police said the driver was wearing a seat belt, and the crash remains under investigation.
