Music notes: Rise Against rocks UIC Pavilion

Local punk band

Rise Against, a punk band with roots in the Northwest suburbs, will make a stop in the city this weekend. The band is touring behind its 2011 release, “Endgame,” which offers another helping of Rise Against's heavy, guitar-based rock 'n' roll.

Rootsy celebration

Fans of folk, bluegrass and roots-rock music should definitely set aside time for the second half of the Chicago Blues and Bluegrass festival. The headliners are the Drive-By Truckers, a group that combines the sound of classic Southern acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd with more contemporary influences like The Replacements and Dinosaur Jr. The Truckers are always a great live act, and they'll be just one part of the festival, which opened last weekend and wraps up this weekend in the city. Other performers on the bill for the second round include acclaimed Chicago folk-rock singer Joe Pug and a slew of up-and-coming local bands.

Show goes national

Discerning Chicago music fans know the late-night show JBTV, which celebrates the indie-rock community with interviews, live performances and music videos. The longtime local favorite will get national exposure starting Feb. 18, when it airs for the first time in markets such as New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., San Francisco and others. Created in 1984 by infectious music fan Jerry Bryant, the show has featured some of the biggest names in rock over the years, including Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day and more.
