Des Plaines police win traffic enforcement award

The Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Traffic Safety recently awarded the Des Plaines police department a Decatur handheld radar unit for participation in the “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaigns over Thanksgiving weekend. Des Plaines was one of eight departments to win out of more than 120 participating towns. It was the second award the department received in 2011 from IDOT. The department placed first for large-sized towns in the Memorial Day “Click It or Ticket” campaign, receiving a $10,000 award to purchase portable speed monitoring devices. Des Plaines has received a traffic safety grant from IDOT of more than $115,000 for fiscal year 2012 to enforce seat-belt laws and to fund extra saturation patrols for impaired drivers and five roadside safety checkpoints.
