Round Lake Beach man gets probation in child porn case

A Round Lake Beach man was placed on probation for 30 months Tuesday after he admitted having child pornography on his home computer.

Braedon Eby, 22, was also fined $1,500 and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Mary Stanton said Round Lake Beach police detected child pornography being downloaded onto a computer at Eby's residence in the 600 block of Pheasant Court.

On Sept. 28 of last year, officers armed with a search warrant went to Eby's address and confiscated a laptop computer and portable hard drive.

An examination of both turned up numerous lewd images of children under the age of 13, Stanton said.

Eby's plea negotiation also calls for him to complete sex offender treatment and to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Eby also agreed to surrender the computer and hard drive to police and to a ban on personal use of the Internet for the length of his probation.

Eby could have been sentenced to up to seven years in prison if convicted after a trial.
