Police shoot 2 dogs attacking Elmhurst residents

Two people were injured, one severely, when they were attacked by two pit bulls in Elmhurst Monday evening. Police officers responding to the home on the 600 block of Kenilworth found a 63-year-old man in a struggle with one of the dogs on the front porch and the second dog in the front yard.

Elmhurst police officers coming to the aid of the man on the porch shot the dog, officials said.

As a second officer attempted to subdue the dog on the lawn, the pit bull turned to attack other officers on the scene. The officer then shot the dog, according to police.

The 63-year-old man suffered severe injuries to his arms and legs and was taken to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, according to police. He remained at the hospital Tuesday in stable condition.

The second victim, a 70-year-old woman, suffered injuries to her arm from a dog bite and was treated at Elmhurst Hospital Monday and released, police said.
