Lafayette woman arrested for Indiana agency threat

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police have arrested a Lafayette woman in connection with a suspicious package that led to the evacuation of 30 people from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development in Indianapolis.

Lisa Bell was being held Monday at the Marion County Jail in Indianapolis on a $6,500 bond. The 43-year-old woman faces a charge of terroristic mischief that’s punishable by two to eight years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

The agency’s office on the state government campus received a package Dec. 30 accompanied by a letter indicating it contained a contagious virus. No virus was found.

Police say an investigation that included postal inspectors traced the package and letter to Bell.

Jail records did not indicate whether Bell had an attorney.
