Missouri man arrested in Wisconsin motel standoff

TOMAH, Wis. — A 22-year-old Missouri man is in jail after a nearly seven-hour standoff with police in the western Wisconsin city of Tomah.

Tomah police responded to a complaint of an intoxicated man with a firearm at the Super 8 motel around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. They say they contacted him in a hallway and he retreated into his room.

The Tomah Police Department says officers set up a perimeter and tried to talk to the man before they eventually used chemical agents to flush him out.

The La Crosse Tribune reports he’s being held in the Monroe County Jail on suspicion of endangering safety while intoxicated with a firearm, failure to comply with police, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct with a dangerous weapon.

Sgt. Pete Huneck says no one was injured.
