Tuition waivers are lawmakers’ job security

Your story on tuition waivers and the “skyrocketing tuition costs” is a no brainer: Why don’t the corrupt Illinois politicians who hand out these freebies to campaign contributors’ relatives just get the universities to reduce the tuition? Both of my stepdaughters have student loans exceeding $65K each. It will take decades to pay these debts off, and they are not the exception to the rule.

I know why lawmakers don’t try to get the universities to reduce tuition. Then their “constituents” wouldn’t need them and that would mean the politicians would have to look for a job in the private sector. Just like the rest of us. —
