Woman saved after falling through ice in Palatine

Palatine police officers rescued a woman who fell through ice at a reservoir late Saturday afternoon.

A passer-by spotted the woman in the water at the Tom T. Hamilton Reservoir and called 911 at 4:14 p.m., said Palatine Fire Batallion Chief Doug Hoyt.

The woman was walking on the ice to get her dog when she fell through, according to fire officials.

Several Palatine police officers arrived at the scene before fire rescue crews, and were able to pull the woman from the water, Hoyt said.

The woman was taken to Northwest Community Hospital with nonlife threatening injuries, Hoyt said.

The accident was the first time this year Palatine emergency crews have rescued someone who had fallen through ice.
