Del Webb’s Edgewater celebrates 5 years
Mother Nature helped the active adult community of Edgewater by Del Webb in Elgin celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Creekside Lodge with a winter wonderland-themed party on Friday and Saturday nights. The decorations inside the banquet hall were matched by a blanket of snow outside.
Instead of gathering at the lodge this weekend for water aerobics, pinochle, quilting or painting, members of the 55 and older community packed the banquet hall to toast the fifth year of the development’s central gathering place.
The Del Webb community has grown to almost 850 houses in the last seven years — growth that helps the active adult community retain its reputation as the fastest growing part of the housing industry.
Jon Speciale, community consultant for Del Webb, said homes range from $189,990 to the mid-$300,000s and include eight models, all of which are ranch-style homes.
About 82 percent of the houses have been sold with room for 1,000 in the entire community. Speciale said the last phase of development will start next month.
Judith DiMonte and her husband were one of the first couples to move into the community. She said there are activities inside all winter with plenty to do outside when the weather breaks, including a new area for horseshoes and plans for a future shuffle board.
“There’s always something,” DiMonte said. “You could be busy 24 hours a day.”
The anniversary parties included catered appetizers and dessert and live entertainment by Diva Martell and Jeorge Holmes.
