1 killed, 5 hurt in crash on icy Interstate 64 in southern Illinois
ALBERS, Ill. — One man has been killed and five others injured in a three-car crash on an icy stretch of Interstate 64 in southern Illinois.
Police say 21-year-old Maurice Currie of Centralia was pronounced dead at the scene of Friday evening’s accident.
He was a back seat passenger in a car that was struck by a semitrailer truck. That car’s driver and three other passengers were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of a third vehicle was also hurt.
The truck’s driver was uninjured.
Police say there were dozens of crashes reported as icy rain coated the area.
