Ultimate tumblers from Gurnee have sweet meet

It doesn’t get much better than this — three teams entered, three teams winning first-place trophies. That news gave the girls from Ultimate Gymnastics of Gurnee something to celebrate at the Hawaiian Pineapple meet held just before the holidays.

At the meet, hosted in Schaumburg by Buffalo Grove Gymnastics Center, the Level 5, 6 and 7 girls’ teams all claimed the top spots in their respective sessions. But the success didn’t stop at the team level — there were many outstanding performances and individual gold medals to count, too.

At Level 5 (10 year olds), Ultimate took the top three spots in the all-around — Riley Finnegan won gold, Sabrina Panlaqui silver and Daniella Strauss bronze.

Not to be outdone, the younger girls (8-9 age group) mirrored this feat, with Olivia Roebuck first, Gracie Gnatt second and Lyndsey Basara third. In the 11-plus age group, Delaney Jones placed first on beam and second on both vault and in the all-around.

At Level 6, Sabrina’s older sister Gabrielle Panlaqui had a great meet in the 12-plus age group. She won gold on beam, silver in the all-around and bronze on bars. Teammates Kylie Miller took the top spot on floor and Nora Steinlein was runner-up on bars.

In the 9 and under age group, Aaliyah Humphries had a consistent meet, placing first on vault and taking silver on all other events, plus the all-around. There was also gold for Lexi Miller on beam in the 10-year-old age group and silver medals for Leah Medenwaldt on vault and Jessica Pasquesi on beam, both in the 11-year-old age group.

The Level 7 team continues its dominant season with outstanding performances by Sonte Turnage in the 10 and under age group and 11-year-old Ella Peter. Sonte took gold on bars, floor and in the all-around, and bronze on vault and beam, while Ella placed first on vault, second in the all-around and third on bars and floor.

In the 12-year-old age group, the Ultimate girls claimed the top four spots in the all-around lead by Lizzie Jacobs, with Emily Whitis second, Ximena Gomez third and Samantha Wahlers fourth.

The two Ultimate Level 9s in action at the meet both came away with all-around gold — Lauren Marshall in the 13-year-old age group and Ally Hoyer in the 14-year-old group. Both girls also won gold on vault, scoring 9.50 and 9.55, respectively, while Ally’s 9.625 score on floor couldn’t be beaten.

At Level 8, Katie Schroeder took the top spot in the all-around in the 13-year-old age group. She also won gold on beam and floor. Her teammate, Maddie Jacobs, placed second on floor. In the 14-year-old group there was gold for Caroline Grumhaus and silver for Hunter Bode both on floor exercise.
