Glen Ellyn starts Little League program

Baseball players and coaches in Glen Ellyn will have new opportunities this season in a league officially sanctioned by the Little League.

The Glen Ellyn Youth Baseball Little League has been chartered by Little League Baseball and Softball based in South Williamsport, Pa., the largest youth sports program in the world and organizer of the Little League Baseball World Series.

Beginning with the 2012 Little League season, the Glen Ellyn Youth Baseball Little League will provide an opportunity for players and their families to enjoy the many benefits of Little League, including an opportunity to participate in the Little League International Tournament.

The Little League International Tournament offers 12 levels of baseball and softball tournament play for children ages 9 to 18. Beginning with the 11- to 12-year-old level of play, all tournaments culminate in a World Series. The Little League International Tournament concludes with the Little League Baseball World Series each August.

In addition to tournament opportunities, Glen Ellyn Youth Baseball Little League also will enjoy many other benefits from Little League affiliation, including free online manager, coach and umpire training; free background checks; and opportunities to attend state and regional clinics and seminars.

Glen Ellyn Youth Baseball Little League registration is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 28, at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School, 350 Bryant Ave., Glen Ellyn.
