Elgin seniors seek volunteer drivers
Submitted by Senior Services Associates
Are you a stay-at-home parent who would like to volunteer and still include your children?
Do you work, but would like to volunteer for a worthwhile project? Or are you retired, and looking for a way to help the community but not get involved in an ongoing commitment?
Being a volunteer driver for a senior who can no longer drive him or herself could make both your lives more fulfilling.
Elgin Township and Senior Services Associates have a long history of working together to improve the quality of life for senior citizens in Kane County. The volunteer driver program is popular because each volunteer has the flexibility to decide his or her own schedule.
Anyone age 18 or older, with a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance is eligible to become a volunteer driver. Each applicant is carefully screened, including a background check, to ensure the safety of the seniors.
A little of your time can truly make a world of difference to a housebound senior. For information on how you can be a part of this program, call Wendy Holtz, volunteer coordinator at Senior Services, (847) 741-0404.
