Ozzie Guillen responds to Jake Peavy’s accusations
Longing for those good old days when Ozzie Guillen and middle son Oney reached for their Twitter accounts and started firing?
Having been released from his White Sox contract with two games remaining in the 2011 season, Guillen is currently preparing for his first year as new manager of the Miami Marlins.
Shortly after heading south, Ozzie blasted pitching coach Don Cooper for allegedly stabbing him in the back while cutting his own five-year contract extension.
Guillen appeared to have let bygones be bygones since that time, but that changed on Friday.
Last Saturday, injury-prone starting pitcher Jake Peavy appeared on the “White Sox Weekly” radio show on WSCR-AM with host Chris Rongey.
Near the end of the interview, Rongey asked Peavy about his relationship with Guillen.
Peavy did not pitch again after starting against the Twins on Sept. 6 last season.
According to Peavy, shutting it down for the season effectively ended any relationship he had with Guillen.
And, in Peavy’s mind, Guillen viewed him as a quitter.
“I would never quit on a team,” Peavy said on the radio show. “Ozzie didn’t finish the season with us the last two games, so I don’t know who quit on who.” Peavy took another shot at Guillen.
“At the end of the day, Ozzie didn’t really know what goes on in the pitching realm of things,” Peavy said. “He didn’t have a whole lot of input and know what was going on.”
Guillen has been out of the country, so maybe Peavy’s comments were slow to reach him.
On Friday — without mentioning Peavy by name — Guillen finally responded.
Here are some of the unedited comments Ozzie made on Twitter Friday:
Ÿ“I am out the country now but i never quit in anything yes be ready when i talk going to be fun”
Ÿ“I will kill peoples feelings no mercy i turn the page but they no let me a long then get ready going to be bad”
Ÿ“When i get to chitown lets make one thing clear what happen last day whit the sox stay tune”
Ÿ“People want me to look bad but I so honest i wiil saynthe real true put u seat belt on”
Oney Guillen, who went after former White Sox closer Bobby Jenks on Twitter last winter, also chimed in Friday with this tweet:
“Oh wow ozzie guillen already gave his warning. Hide ur kids hide ur wife. He is coming for ur throat. U know who u r. U started it”
Sensing the oncoming storm, Peavy responded later Friday — on Twitter of course:
“Hey y’all enough please said it before & again now I Love @OzzieGuillen and have all the respect in the world for him and his family”
