Lombard's first community blood drive a success
One hundred ninety-seven donors and 20 deferrals round out the totals for the first blood drive of the new year, on Jan. 18.
Between the donations collected at Yorktown Center in the morning and those collected at the village hall in the afternoon, organizers of the village's blood drive partner, Heartland Blood Center, are happy with the turnout.
“January is National Blood Donor Month and is always a time where we try and recruit new donors,” said Carol Bauer, Executive Coordinator for the Lombard Village Manager and organizer of the community blood drives. “We are happy with the turnout and appreciate everyone's support,” she added.
Bauer particularly noted the repeated support of Oberweis Dairy and Culver's Restaurant in Lombard, who each give coupons for free product at their locations.
“In 2011, 726 pints of blood were collected,” stated Bauer. “I am hoping that we can beat that in 2012,” she added.
The next community blood drive is scheduled for April 11.
