I have nothing left to cut
We were taught to budget — that you can’t spend more than you have. Many of us have lived by that rule, to save and invest for our golden years, only to find that what began with our federal government, then state, now city of Elgin, continued to spend money they didn’t have, ignoring any form of budget, at our expense.
I can’t even reach Elgin city hall, much less the overpaid city manager, to complain, at our local level.
Social Security has increased a bit, no one explains. The cuts in Medicare are far more, our supplemental medical insurance increases so much. Taxes are going up for less services, as we continue to cut, in vain.
My grandfather worked 60 years for Borden’s for his small check in retirement. Now people right in Elgin get jobs for a few years and get full, costly pensions and go to other jobs where they get more pensions, called double dipping.
Having already sold some stock to survive last year, income is less now and costs are devastating. At 85 and nothing left to cut, I wonder if anyone can tell me where you go to buy a money machine so I can print money as our government does so easily.
It’s bad enough to be physically limited and feel helpless, without the added burdens of worrying how you can pay your bills and not lose basics.
Inflation is deadly for us all and now those on disability suffer as seniors do.
Hope someone has answers to help seniors and the disabled.
When will Americans fight back and demand we get our companies back, to get our jobs back, and resolve our extremely bad economy? Meantime, I refuse to give up the good fight and wish others would fight to get our nation, state and city back to us!
