Dawn Patrol: Crash victim dies, bank robbery suspect arrested

A Buffalo Grove woman died Wednesday from injuries she recieved in a crash in Lincolnshire Friday night, authorities said. Shruti Phadnis, 26, of the 100 block of Johnson Drive, died at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville after succumbing to her injuries. She was injured in a crash on Milwaukee Avenue that sent four people to the hospital late Friday evening. The accident remains under investigation.

Arlington Heights teen charged in videotaped attack recently moved to suburbs

The 16-year-old Arlington Heights teen charged in the beating of a high school senior that was videotaped and has gone viral on the web recently moved to the suburbs from the Bridgeport area, according to his attorney. The boy, one of seven teenagers accused in the attack, was charged as a juvenile with four felonies. The teen had been part of the Bridgeport Chinese community, said his attorney, explaining why he was there Sunday. Full story.

Oakbrook Terrace chief says fire, shootings was traumatizing

Oakbrook Terrace Fire Chief Gregory Sebesta said he is carefully monitoring his personnel for signs of critical incident stress after their response Tuesday morning to the scene of four fatal shootings and a fire in unincorporated DuPage County. “This is the most (fatalities) we've had as far as a single incident,” Sebesta said. Third suspect arrested this morning in Elgin bank robbery

Elgin police conducted an extensive manhunt with police dogs and helicopters last night after a suspect in a bank robbery escaped from a getaway vehicle. Two suspects were arrested after the three robbed Elgin State Bank at about 4:45 p.m., but the third ran from the vehicle. The third was arrested this morning in Batavia. Full story.

Bianchi files $15 million suit against prosecutors

McHenry County State's Attorney Louis Bianchi filed a $15 million suit against those who unsuccessfully prosecuted him last year, claiming the prosecution was a “politically and financially motivated conspiracy.” Bianchi was found not guilty without calling any defense witnesses in the August 2011 misconduct trial. The lawsuit claims the investigations against Bianchi were a move to remove him from office without any probable cause or evidence. Full story.

District 203 delays boundary change decision

They've now spent more than seven hours with a total of five maps and considered moves that would affect between 930 and 1,200 children but the Naperville Unit District 203 enrollment and capacity committee needs more time and at least another meeting before members are ready to submit a revamped boundary proposal to the board. Carpentersville police defend shooting at suspect during chase

Carpentersville police officials say their officers did the right thing by shooting at a suspect who rammed an unmarked squad car, injuring officers who were inside the vehicle, during a drug sting Tuesday. The bullets were fired at the fleeing vehicle, and one of the fragments struck a window at an elementary school less than 100 yards from the site of the sting. “When you're in the situation, you've got to look at the totality of the circumstances and if it is a deadly-force issue,” Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Cook Co. Board to hold hearings over controversial ICE policy

The Cook County Board is planning hearings to decide whether or not to amend its controversial policy to ignore federal officials' requests to detain possible illegal immigrants who would otherwise be released from jail. Prior to the new policy, the sheriff's office would hold any inmate for two days at the request of ICE even if that person posted bond or completed his or her sentence. Full story.

Family baffled by West Chicago man's death

Relatives of a 22-year-old West Chicago man found dead near a West Chicago middle school Tuesday morning are seeking answers about his death. An autopsy on Miguel Quinones was inconclusive and there were no signs of foul play. He was visiting with his uncle Monday night and his family had assumed he spent the night. He was found by a passer-by at about 11:30 a.m. the next day. Full story.

Kodak Chapter 11 filing official

Photography icon Eastman Kodak has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, as it seeks to boost its cash position and stay in business. The move comes as the ailing company has failed to find a buyer for its trove of 1,100 digital imaging patents. Full story.

A light, dusting of snow will take place this morning that should only drop about one-half inch of the white stuff on the ground. But, when that moves on, temperatures will dip as an even colder front blows in, causing temperatures to drop into the single digits tonight and into tomorrow. Traffic

Slick roads are out there because of the snow flurries falling. Accidents have been reported at W. Lake Street and Naperville Road in Bartlett, and 75th Street and Woodward Avenue in Woodridge. Officials warn that ramps are always the slickest spots on the highways, so people should slow down before reaching the ramps to make sure the stay in control. Full traffic.

Hawks' Shaw, Hayes continue to shine, both score in 6-2 win

After being called up from Rockford a few weeks ago, rookies Andrew Shaw and Jimmy Hayes have stepped into the NHL without a hitch. Shaw and Hayes both scored in last night's 6-2 win over the struggling Buffalo Sabres. Captain Jonathan Toews added 2 goals. “They've been a huge part of our team,” defenseman Duncan Keith said.
